The team at TRVST have been busy over the last year helping to inspire people to connect around the issues that they care about and act for a better planet. One of the areas they champion is reducing the amount of single-use plastic that is polluting our environment.
And one of the most visible culprits is the humble plastic straw. How come? Well, whereas they might appear small and not nearly as big an issue as melting glaciers and extreme weather, all the same given that we use a staggering 500million a day in the US they all add up to be quite a big problem.
This is a problem that is only compounded when plastic straws enter our Oceans. They become fish food as they break down. And the fish that consume the resulting microplastic might well be served up for supper near you.
Therefore we can and should call time on plastic straws and replace them with environmentally friendly alternatives. This will no doubt be helped by bans and companies already moving to paper straws. Meanwhile, do consider if you really need that plastic straw with your next big mac.
